Nc’nean Launches First Expression, Organic Single Malt Whisky

Nc’nean has launched its first expression, Organic Single Malt Whisky. Packaged in a 100% recycled clear glass bottle, the Scotch Whisky is certified organic and made using 100% renewable energy.

Created from organic Scottish barley, the Whisky is matured for three years in ex-Bourbon and ex-red wine barrels. The resulting liquid is described as, “Smooth and elegant… easy-going and delicious however you drink it, with flavours of citrus, peach, apricot and spice.”

“When I left my London job to found Nc’nean in 2013, I wanted to create a distillery that would be known for creativity and would lead the way in sustainability,” explained founder Annabel Thomas.

“At the time, 2020 seemed impossibly far away, and we’ve overcome so many hurdles on the journey so far, but I am incredibly excited to have reached this point. But more than that, I feel the quality and taste of our first whisky proves that a focus on the excellence of the spirit with careful sourcing of barley and yeast, and a slow and gentle fermentation and distillation, creates a whisky that is both delicious and sustainable.”

Nc’nean Organic Single Malt Whisky can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or in a cocktail. If you’re looking to mix something up, the distillery recommends the Whisky Six:

Whisky Six

  • 2 parts Nc’nean (50ml)
  • 4 parts soda water (100ml)
  • Mint sprig to garnish

Fill a glass with cubed ice and add all the ingredients. Gently stir then garnish with a fresh sprig of mint.

Coming in at 46% ABV, Nc’nean Organic Single Malt Whisky costs £47.95 ($75 USD) per 700ml bottle and can be purchased via the distillery’s official website.

Nc’nean completely sold out of their first batch of the Whisky within 24 hours, but more is expected to be available come October.

Back in August, Nc’nean broke a world record as the first bottle of its inaugural Ainnir single malt Whisky sold for $54,183 during an online auction. The Highland distillery auctioned off their first 10 bottles of the Scotch via Whisky Auctioneer to raise money for five charities.
