Bowmore Unveils 37 Year Old Fenghuang Edition Unveiled, Second Whisky In Chinese Mythical Guardians Series

Bowmore has unveiled its 37 Year Old Fenghuang Edition, the second limited edition Whisky in its Chinese Mythical Guardians Series. The new Whisky from the Islay Scotch brand will be exclusively available in China.

The Bowmore 37 Year Old Fenghuang Edition pays homage to mythological creature Fenghuang, mythological birds who are symbols of virtue and grace. Made from Whisky matured in second-fill Sherry casks for more than 30 years, followed by an additional three years in seasoned first-fill Sherry casks, it is belled at cask strength 52.1% ABV.

According to the brand, the new single malt celebrates Bowmore’s rich fruit and smoke house style. On the nose, the whisky has notes of scented wood, tropical fruit, aged leather, toffee apple and warm spice. While the palate offers a balance of dried fruits, roasted coffee beans and dark chocolate merged with nutty and perfume notes, leading to a floral, peppery and oak spiced finish.

The Bowmore 37 Year Old Fenghuang Edition was created exclusively for the Whisky L festival, which is currently set to occur in Shanghai this fall. The release is limited to just 888 bottles.

“Following on from the great response we received to the 36-year-old China exclusive last year, we are delighted to be able to reveal this second edition, which continues the celebration of figures which are hugely influential and honoured in Asian culture,” said Bowmore distillery manager David Turner.  “As with single malts of this great age, there is considerable skill and knowledge required to bring such whiskies to fruition and know when the optimal maturation time is reached. It is this commitment to harnessing time to shape our single malt in the very best way possible, which defines Bowmore.”

Bowmore 37 Year Old Fenghuang Edition will make its debut at Shanghai show Whisky L and will be available in whisky retailers across China, priced at $2,200 USD.

Last August, Bowmore unveiled the first bottling in its Chinese Mythical Guardians Series, the Bowmore 36 Year Old Dragon Edition, which was also limited to just 888 bottles. It sold out in record time. The Islay distillery plans to release four total bottles in the series.

According to Bowmore, the final two releases in the range will “continue to celebrate the mythical guardians of Chinese mythology whilst showcasing exceptional and rare older aged Bowmore whiskies.”
