Bowmore Unveils “Ultimate” Collection, Including $47,000 1969 Whisky

Bowmore 1969 Ultimate

Bowmore Distillery has unveiled its “Ultimate” rare whisky collection for 2022. The range is comprised of three single malt Scotches, including a 1969 bottling priced at $47,700 as well as the exclusive 2021 releases of Bowmore 30-Year-Old and Bowmore 40-Year-Old.

Bottled at 46.9%, Bowmore 1969 was the final launch in the iconic Islay distillery’s Vaults series. The single malt was matured in American oak ex-Bourbon barrels and hogsheads. It offers floral notes on the nose, along with citrus and sweetness.

The Bowmore 40-Years-Old, meanwhile, was bottled at 48.7% ABV and was created as a limited edition run of just 159 bottles. It is priced at $9,200. On the nose, the whisky offers aromas of treacle, exotic fruits, and beeswax. The palate delivers pipe tobacco, chocolate and leather.

Bottled in 2000 from 1989 stocks at an ABV of 45.1%, the 30-Year-Old was matured in Sherry hogsheads and Bourbon barrels, and will retail for $2,700. It features ripe apricot and charred pineapple notes on the nose, leading to tropical fruits and honey on the palate.

“These exquisite, aged and rare launches are a credit to the Bowmore portfolio and continue to drive our desire to produce highly revered products,” said David Turner, Bowmore distillery manager. “We have been able to showcase how vital time is to each individual vintage, how time spent in casks shapes and influences each spirit, making it even more characterful. Each release tells the rich stories of Bowmore, but importantly have their own unique style and character.”
