Dictador Unveils Two Masters Royal Tokaji 1977

Dictador Two Masters Royal Tokaji 1977

Dictador has teamed up with Hungarian winemaker Royal Tokaji for the newest edition to its Two Masters series. The cask-finished series has previously seen the Colombian Rum brand pair up with some of the world’s most famous distillers and winemakers.

Dictador 2 Masters, Royal Tokaji 1977 is a 40-year-old Rum, which has gone through additional maturation in the cellars of the Royal Tokaji Wine Company in Hungary. To create the new edition, Dictador master blender Hernan Parra collaborated with Royal Tokaji master blender Zoltán Kovács.

Dictador filled ten barrels from Royal Tokaji with 1977 vintage rum and finished the spirit in them for seven months. Those barrels had previously been filled with 2016 Royal Tokaji Aszú 6 Puttonyos and had been used in the maturation of wine for 12 to 14 years. The resulting liquid features complex aromas of tropical fruit and honey, along with flavors of Madagascan vanilla, honey, and chocolate. The finish is round and complex with a fresh touch of Royal Tokaji Aszú.

“In the depths of the 13th century Royal Tokaji wine cellar, our rum has developed a new and extraordinary finish,” noted Para. “Its palate is elegant and balanced, smooth and rich, with a good attack and a persistent finish. The Tokaji Aszú aroma has made a remarkable mark too. Dictador Two Masters Royal Tokaji is complex and rich, with hints of tropical fruits and a nice honey touch on the nose.”

Only 475 bottles of Dictador Two Masters Royal Tokaji 1977 will be available to purchase worldwide, priced at £670 ($860 USD).

Back in September, Dictador unveiled Capitulo, a series of limited release rum casks aged under the supervision of Parra. Capitulo (“chapter” in Spanish), showcases the Parra family’s dedication, drawing on colourful Colombian heritage to create the unique flavor profiles captured in each of the releases. Dictador Capitulo Uno (‘Chapter One’) is a collection of rums aged in American Oak, with finishes across different styles of casks including Port and Sherry.
