Fettercairn Launches 2021 Edtion Of 16 Years Old Whisky

Fettercairn 16 Years Old 2021 edition

Fettercairn has launched the 2021 edition of its 16 Years Old whisky. The new whisky expression follows the success of the inaugural Fettercairn 16 Years Old, which was released in 2020.

The Fettercairn 16 Years Old 2021 edition has been created with both sherry-matured and sherry-finished casks. Selected from a family-run bodega in Jerez, the casks include first-fill oloroso, refill oloroso, and first-fill aged Palo Cortado sherry butts. The casks add nutty, vanilla, and citrus notes to the tropical fruit flavor of the distillery’s Scotch, says the brand.

“This one-off Fettercairn 16 Years Old limited edition was borne from fully mattured sherry casks combined with hand-selected, rare and old oloroso and Palo Cortado sherry butts,” Gregg Glass, master whisky maker. “For me, this was about retaining the natural beauty and balance of our Fettercairn tropical house style while elevating the pure beauty and refinement of [the] Palo Cortado and oloroso casks.”

Kirsteen Beeston, head of international malts at Whyte & Mackay, said: “The enthusiasm and love we saw for our first 16 Years Old reinforced our desire to create whiskies inspired by our enlightened whisky-making philosophy.

“This 16 Years Old reveals finely balanced tropical and soft spice flavours and showcases the approach we take to making single malt… We are confident that this year’s 16 Years Old will be another Fettercairn release that excites and enthrals whisky drinkers.”

Bottled at 46.4% ABV, Fettercairn 16 Years Old 2021 edition is available across Europe including in the Netherlands, UK, France, and Germany as well as global travel retail in key Asia markets. It is priced at £69.

In August, Fettercairn unveiled the second whisky from its Warehouse Collection, Fettercairn Warehouse 2 Batch No.002. The single malt Scotch has been matured in ex-American rye and ex-bourbon barrels.
