Four Pillars Teams Up With Yarra Yering For Single Vineyard Bloody Underhill Shiraz Gin

Four Pillars has teamed up with Yarra Yering winery to launch Bloody Underhill Shiraz Gin. The new offering comes just three months after the Melbourne distillery launched the 2021 edition of its iconic Bloody Shiraz Gin.

The new limited edition Single Vineyard Bloody Shiraz Gin is made from Yarra Yering Shiraz mixed with a special barrel-aged Four Pillars Rare Dry Gin. The distillery used super-premium fruit picked from the Yarra Yering Underhill vineyard, which was planted in 1973 and is one of the Yarra Valley’s oldest shiraz vineyards. At the start of 2020, Four Pillars co-founder and distiller Cameron Mackenzie asked Yarra Yering winemaker Sarah Crowe if she had some older barrels that he could use to mature gin in. In a trade for gin for herself and the team, she donated some Dry Red No.1 & 2 barrels.

The gin is made by adding whole bunches of Underhill shiraz fruit to a special blend of Rare Dry Gin, which has been aged for 14 months in Yarra Yering red wine barrels. The new tipple is stronger, sweeter and more intensely flavored than the annual release. Bottled at 41.8% ABV, it is a good amount stronger than the usual Bloody Shiraz Gin, which comes in at 37.8%.

“We could never have done this without Sarah Crowe and the incredible team at Yarra Yering and our own crew have put enormous love, care and attention into this gin. We hope you enjoy drinking it as much as we loved making it,” said Mackenzie.

Four Pillars Bloody Underhill Shiraz Gin will be on sale beginning August 24 directly from Four Pillars and very limited Dan Murphy’s stores. It is priced at $175, and is the first release of what will become an annual Bloody Shiraz Single Vineyard Series.
