Hand shakes, fluttering lashes, and the silent slide of key cards, hotel lobby bars are rich in lore and suggestion. Spread out across the luxurious lobby of the W Hollywood, The Living Room takes the mythos of this business man-meets-bon vivant playground and turns it into a Hollywood salon filled with music and fresh plays on classic cocktails. High ceilings, crystal chandeliers, and a spiral staircase with ruby red carpet, it’s a picture out of Hollywood’s Golden Age, with a touch of Parisian flair.
The Living Room at the W Hollywood is not the usual lobby bar. It lays itself out from the concierge desk to the hotel restaurant clear on the other side of the property. The space is large and airy, but high back sofas and hidden nooks allow for intimate and personal conversations. There is a deck area with two large fires and two large televisions, meaning there’s no need to set down your drink to get some air or have a smoke.
The cocktail menu is made up of classics and modern concoctions with Hollywood-themed names. The Station Aviation uses Plymouth Gin, Violette, blueberry, hibiscus, and lemon to create a well-balanced and refreshing play that has just a touch of sweetness. Their Penicillin keeps things classic and uses Dewar’s Scotch. Those looking for something a bit more modern will do well to try Tinkerbell’s Botox (The Botanist Gin, cucumber, lime, Green Chartreuse).
The food menu is well-tailored, offering starters, salads, sandwiches, and desserts. The smoked turkey on pumpernickel is simple, yet sumptuous and worth every penny. The roasted mushroom sandwich, meanwhile, receives rave reviews from staff and hotel guests. Those looking for coffee will be happy to find both espresso and Americano options available.
Come nightfall five nights per week (Tuesday through Saturday), live music fills the space. From live jazz and blues-infused rock ‘n’ roll to DJs, when the clock strikes 9:30 pm the Living Room blossoms into a life-filled lounge. The sounds play a perfect background to those looking to sip cocktails and continue intimate conversation with an infusion of electricity.
With its luxurious and spacious interior, well-crafted cocktails, and music-filled nights, The Living Room at the W Hollywood is the answer to the perennial question of how to spice up a quiet night on the Hollywood strip.
