New York’s Gold Room Unveils $250 Martini

|

The Gold Room at the Lotte New York Palace has unveiled its new “Art of the Martini” cocktail menu, starring the $250 Reserve Martini. While that might sound like a lot for a single drink–and it certainly is–the price tag actually makes some sense once you dig into the details.

The $250 Reserve Martini is made with Nolet’s Reserve, a $700 small-batch gin infused with a variety of botanicals including the world’s most expensive spice, saffron. There’s also a hint of Dolin’s dry vermouth.

The Art of the Martini menu is inspired by New York’s Gilded Age, an era of spectacular architecture, beautiful parks and squares, exquisite mansions, and palatial public buildings that spanned from 1870 to 1910. Buildings from the time include The Carnegie Mansion and The Villard Mansions (where the Lotte New York Palace is located).

In total, the new menu boasts eight unique martinis, with prices starting as low as $25. There’s the Master Distiller Martini ($125), which is made with Harlen D. Wheatley CLIX vodka and a hint of Dolin’s dry vermouth; the Royal Vesper (Belvedere “Smogory Forrest” Single Estate Vodka, Kyoto Distillery Ki No Bi Gin, Lillet Blanc); the Clasé ($65), made with Clase Azul Reposado Tequila, Lillet Blanc, and Half Salt Rim; as well as the $25 Seoul-ful (Hwanggeum Bori Black Label, Golden Barley Soju, Fresh Lemon Juice Rinse, Twist).

The bar itself is decked out in, no surprise, gold. It’s as opulent as the come and will certainly make for a memorable night, even if it’s simply do to the check.
