Paul John Launches Mithuna Indian Single Malt Whisky

|

Paul John has unveiled its latest Indian Single Malt Whisky, Mithuna. The new offering is named after the Indian counterpart of the Zodiac sign Gemini. It is the second release in Paul John Single Malts’ Zodiac series.

Bottled at 58% ABV, Mithuna by Paul John matured in American virgin oak casks before being finished in ex-bourbon casks. Created from six-row barley harvested from across the vast lands of northwestern India to the foothills of the Himalayas, the whisky is distilled in the warm tropical climate of Goa along the southwestern coast of India, and has an angel’s share of eight percent. It is non chill-filtered and unpeated.

On the notes, the whisky offers hints of old oak, aromas of liquorice, delicate beeswax and a soothing ulmo honey on crisp toast with a tinge of vanilla. On the palate, Mithuna delivers chewy flavours of coffee mocha, orange peel, and soft spice floating on active tannins that lead to a long and gratifying finish.

It was rated as one of the three best new whiskies on the planet, scoring 97 out of 100, by Jim Murray in 2021.

In the United States, Mithuna by Paul John sells for $300 retail, and is currently available in California (San Francisco-Bay Area), Florida, Boston and Texas and will be available in Michigan, Ohio, New York, Washington, Los Angeles and San Diego later this spring. In the United Kingdom, it can be found via Hard To Find Whisky for the price of £209.

Launched in 2012, Paul John Whisky is currently available in 38 countries and is part of John Distilleries’ portfolio, which features brands in various liquor categories including whiskies, brandy, and wines. The flagship brand of the company is Original Choice, one of the top selling brands in India’s popular whisky segment and one of the top 10 selling whiskies in the world, with sales exceeding 11 million cases a year.
