Stay And Sip At The Maker’s Mark Family’s Home Along The Kentucky Bourbon Trail

Maker's Mark Samuels House

Whiskey lovers can now stay at the home where Maker’s Mark bourbon was born. Known as the Samuels House, the owners have opened the property to guests in an effort to share the family’s history and legacy.

“Owned and operated by the founding family of Maker’s Mark Distillery, you’ll enjoy a one-of-a-kind opportunity to experience an intimate piece of Kentucky bourbon history like an insider,” the family wrote of the 1820s manor, which was purchased and renovated by 8th-generation whiskey maker Rob Samuels in 2020. “Set amidst two acres fitted with mature oak trees and surrounded by horse pastures, the traditional features of a 200-year-old Federal-style manor home combine with the modern luxury of plush group travel accommodations that were as carefully crafted as the whisky they are known for.”

Located in Bardstown, Kentucky, Samuels House is three-bedroom home that has accommodations for up to eight guests. Guests can expect to find a chef’s kitchen equipped with high-end appliances and custom-designed dinnerware, a whisky ice maker and custom-blown glassware, indoor and outdoor dining spaces, a game room, and more.

The home’s centerpiece – the parlor – features a hand-made bar showcasing 50 bottles of whiskey spanning 150 years of Samuels family distilling, from the days of the old T.W. Samuels brand to current-day Maker’s Mark. Eight generations of family heirlooms are displayed throughout the home, including Margie Samuels’ English pewter collection that inspired the naming of Maker’s Mark and the deep fryer she used to adorn the first bottle in what would become the brand’s signature red wax.

Beyond the home, guests can also book one-of-a-kind add-on experiences including tours of the distillery, chef-prepared dinner pairings, and one-on-one time with former Maker’s Mark chairman and history buff Bill Samuels Jr. Pricing begins at $1,000 a night.
