Taylor’s have unveiled a 50-year-old twany Port called Golden Age.

Taylor’s Golden Age Port aged for half a century in old oak casks at the Taylor’s cellars in the Douro region of Portugal. The grapes were sourced in the eastern reaches of the Douro Valley, location of many of the finest vineyard estates and traditional source of the most long-lasting wines.

“Since we launched the first 50-year-old Taylor’s Single Harvest ports nearly a decade ago, we’ve seen growing interest in exceptional wines that are half a century old,” said Adrian Bridge, managing director of Taylor’s. Adding, “Taylor’s Golden Age, is a wonderful wine, which is the perfect gift for a special occasion, which will deliver incredible pleasure when enjoyed with close friends.”

The wine is chestnut copper in color with a light golden rim. The primary aromas are elegant, rich, and very delicate with notes of rum, raisin, clove, nutmeg, and a hint of cracked black pepper. The palate finds prunes, quince and apricot alongside lemon zest and orange. Notes of scorched pineapple, passion fruit and lychee balance beautifully with toasted coconut, almonds, and butterscotch. The texture and weight of the wine wraps the palate and finishes bright, fresh and poised, lingering for an eternity.

Taylor’s recommends pairing the wine with flavors of figs, almonds, and caramel. The brand also suggests crème brulée, a plate of wild strawberries, walnuts, or simply appreciating it on its own at the end of the meal.

Taylor’s Golden Age Port is priced at £180.

Last month, Taylor’s launched its Very Very Old Tawny Port in celebration of Queen Elizabeth II’s 70 year reign. It was created with wines aged from the time Queen Elizabeth was crowned.
