Singapore’s award-winning Atlas bar has unveiled a new Art Deco-inspired cocktail menu. Dubbed Sense of Place, the menu was developed by head bartender Jesse Vida and the bar team.
The Sense of Place menu takes cues from European Art Deco architecture and also celebrates shared connections between the past and present. “Sense of Place pays homage to Atlas and what it means to our guests and ourselves, a place that we can all identify with and feel special,” explained Vida. “We wanted to connect our guests to the architecture of Atlas and many grand Art Deco landmarks through our cocktails. We look forward to welcoming guests to Atlas and for them to explore their connections to these magnificent structures.”
The menu is divided into seven chapters: Luminary Landmark (non-alcoholic), Dreaming in the Dark, Promise of Progress, Emporium of Hope, Palace of Peace, Electric Powerhouse, and Men of the Future. Each chapter features an illustration of a European Art Deco landmark, including the Battersea Power Station in London, Helsinki Central Station in Finland, La Samaritaine in Paris, and the Edificio de la Unión y el Fénix Español in Madrid.
Drinks include the alcohol-free East Gibraltar (non-alcohol spirit, allspice, pomegranate, toasted orange syrup, lemon, ginger ale), which was a nickname given by Sir Winston Churchill to describe Singapore’s bustling ports; and The Pont Neuf Daisy, a take on a classic Daisy cocktail featuring roquefort cognac (cognac infused with blue cheese), calvados, grappa, plum, elderflower syrup, fresh lemon, and garnished with elderflower dust. It is named after one of Paris’s oldest bridges, where the stunning Art Deco façade of La Samaritaine with its stepped geometric windows sits.
Sense of Place also features a selection of gin and tonics, and a new Bartender’s Choice G&T for S$24 ($18 USD).
The venue’s classic cocktails will still be available, such as the Atlas Martini (S$25/ US$19), Orange Blossom Martini (S$28/ US$21) and the Atlas Espresso Martini (S$24). Guests can enjoy these drinks in a flight of three mini Martinis with An Atlas Suite (S$38/ US$28).
